Q. Why BIM? A. Owner/founder operated since 1969, faculty experience exceeds 300 years, approximately 2500 graduates, active alumni association, graduates employed worldwide.
Q. Why not college? A. That could be your decision if you are truly motivated to be a doctor, lawyer, teacher i.e. enter a field that REQUIRES a college education. Broadcasting/Communications does not.
Q. Do BIM grads continue their education in college? A. Many do. We have articulation agreements with colleges, which grant credits to BIM alumni.
Q. How long will it take to graduate? A. Our diploma program features 600 hours of intensive training, similar in duration to taking a college major. It can be completed in as few as 5 1/2 months in day school or 9-24 months as an evening student.
Q. Are there payment plans? A. Yes, short and long term, with or without interest.
Q. Is financial assistance available? A. Yes, Maryland residents are eligible to apply for legislative scholarships and grants. Honorably discharged veterans, regardless of state residences may be eligible for tuition assistance through the Veterans Administration. High school seniors can apply for special scholarships worth up to $4,000.
Q. What kind of equipment will I be using?
A. BIM uses industry standard equipment and software, such as: Adobe Audition, MediaTouch, QuixPix, iMediaLogger, Avid and Adobe Premier editing software.
Q. Who will be teaching my courses?
A. BIM instructors are broadcasting professionals. They have the knowledge, experience and connections to get you successfully started in the industry.
Q. Is BIM strictly on-air broadcast training? A. Not at all. Our mission statement says in part ... "training students for entry level on-air and behind-the-scenes positions" including news, sports, disc jockey, radio and TV production, sales, promotions etc. If a job requires a COMMUNICATIONS background, BIM prepares its students.
Q. Is being an extrovert an advantage? A. BIM could be known as SCIM - The Self Confidence Institute of Maryland, because students get comprehensive instruction in public speaking and related areas.
Q. What makes BIM unique? A. Continuous job placement assistance after graduation. The GRO (Graduate Refresher Operation) program which enables alumni to retake all or part of the course, AT NO CHARGE. A realism-centered course. A professional dress code. Emphasis on proper language. A close-knit network/family of alumni. A shadow program for prospective students enabling them to be a "student-for-a-day". Early Enrollment program by which students schedule their own hands-on activities immediately.
